BIRDCARE AND WILDLIFE

Improving our gardens is an extremely rewarding past time, but caring for and preserving our natural wildlife is also vitally important. At AHS Direct we know many of our customers love attracting birds and wildlife into the garden, feeding and protecting them, offering them somewhere to feed, drink and nest. It is something we believe very passionately about and so we offer a comprehensive range of bird feeds, bird feeders, bird tables, nesting boxes and wildlife habitats and homes for the garden. We regularly update our range with new and innovative birdcare and wildlife products so please do check the site!

FEEDS

We offer you a choice of specially selected quality bird feeds including seeds, peanuts and bird cakes suitable for most garden birds. New this year is the Bill Oddie range of bird foods – everything from Essential Bird Breakfast to Really Wild bird food all at competitive prices. This range has been chosen for its high quality content, containing everything birds need for maximum nutrition and energy. The RSPB recommend that we feed garden birds all year round and not just in winter. However, it is important to make sure we are feeding the correct type of food for the right type of bird, and particularly when birds are nurturing their young.

FEEDERS

Bird Feeders will ensure any visiting birds to your garden can feed in safety and the greater variety of feeders in the garden, the greater variety of birds. Some are ground feeders, some feed off tables others like feeding tubes. Our garden bird feeder range also includes a variety of solid foods, such as bird cakes and fat blocks and sunflower heads. Our garden bird feeders are easy to clean and cleaning them regularly should help prevent the spread of sickness. We also include water dishes for drinking and bathing which is important all year round and can be topped up when weather affects natural reserves.

BIRD TABLES

Bird tables are an excellent way of attracting birds to the garden and they can be so comical to watch! They are also a practical way of supporting the birds in your area and keep them fed, happy and healthy all year round. We have chosen a range of attractive, well made hanging and free-standing bird tables that will suit all gardens. Always make sure you position your bird tables in a safe position away from cats and a sheltered position in the garden.

NESTING BOXES

A nest box is an ideal substitute for the garden bird’s natural nest site, and with more natural habitat being destroyed they provide a safe retreat for rearing young. Nesting boxes are ideal homes for birds in any size garden and are a first class alternative for hollows and holes in old trees in the garden.

All our nesting boxes are simple to site and made for most garden birds species use.

We also have roosters and nest boxes to accommodate tawny owls. Always position garden nest boxes where they are safe from cats and sheltered from direct sun which will be too hot for eggs and fledglings.

WILDLIFE HABITATS

Encourage wildlife to make your garden their home by introducing wildlife habitats for the beneficial animals and insects that are so useful to our gardens . In return for food and shelter they will help create a natural balance in the garden by preying on unwanted pests reducing the need for garden chemicals. Featured are hedgehog houses, dormouse mansion, bug boxes, bat caves, bee hives, butterfly boudoirs and ladybird towers, everything you could need to create a wildlife sanctuary in your very own back garden. And the best bit is you are doing your bit to support this delicate balance between man and nature and have a garden truly alive as nature intended.
